Florida Bright Futures Scholarships for 2023
The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship has three levels of awards: Florida Academic Scholars Award (FASA), Florida Medallion Scholars Award (FMS), and Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award.
The Florida Bright Bright Future Scholarship is easily renewable. This means you can lower your college costs by a significant amount over several years.

What is the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship?
- Florida Academic Scholars will receive a 100% discount on tuition and fees. They will also get $300 in summer and spring session to cover training costs. Students attending public institutions will also be eligible for tuition and fees.Students who are eligible for the FAS program may be awarded a scholarship to help cover tuition and fees during summer session.
- Florida Medallion Scholarships (FMS), will receive a scholarship covering 75% of the tuition and fees. FMS students can receive a scholarship during summer sessions that covers tuition and applicable fees. This award will be available starting in summer 2023.
- Applicable fees for both FAS and FMS include activity and service fees, health fees, athletic fees, financial aid fees, capital improvement fees, campus access/transportation fees, technology fees, and tuition differential fees.
The Bright Futures Award amounts for 2023 are summarized below:
- The Florida Academic Scholars Award amounts to $212.71 per credit.
- The Florida Medallion Scholars Award amounts to $159.53 for each credit hour.
- The Academic Top Scholars Award costs $44 per credit.
Bright Future Scholarship Eligibility
The first step in applying for a Bright Futures Scholarship is to confirm that you qualify for the scholarship. You can’t wait until the last minute to apply for this scholarship.
Florida General Future Requirements
All Bright Futures scholarships must meet the following requirements:
- You must be a Florida resident and a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen, as determined by your school.
- Florida students must submit their financial aid applications by August 31st of the school year.
- You must also have a Florida high-school diploma, or an equivalent, from a Florida private or public school registered by the Florida Department of Education.
- He should not have been convicted.
- You must be accepted into and enrolled at a Florida independent or public postsecondary institution that offers a degree program (college, vocational, or professional).
- You must also be enrolled in at least six credit hours (without remedy).
Specific Florida Bright Futures scholarship requirements

The minimum SAT value is only applicable to the “Critical Reading”, “Math”, and “Sections” (on the SAT prior to March 2020), or your new SAT score (if taken in March 2020 or afterward). Both have a maximum of 1600. You don’t need to take the SAT or ACT. One is sufficient.
The GSV program has slightly different participation requirements. The GSV program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 (weighted), in non-elective classes. The minimum service is 30 hours.
The GSV score requirements are more specific (notice that you can only pass one exam, and you cannot combine sections from different exams).

How to Apply for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship
This process is largely automated. You won’t need to do any extra work other than submitting your Florida Financial Aid Application.
You can apply as early as December 1 if you meet all the eligibility requirements.
1: Submit your Florida Financial Assistance Application (FFAA).
Each year, the FFAA is open on the first of December. After submitting the FFAA, you will receive your Florida Bright Futures login information.
Remember that you will need to submit your FFAA before August 31st of the year in which you graduated from high school. Otherwise, you won’t be eligible for a Scholarship.
2 – Take the ACT and SAT, then submit your results
You will still be required to take either the ACT (for college applications) or SAT (for high school applicants).
To ensure Bright Futures applications are reviewed by the Florida Department of Education (FDE), submit your scores to any Florida college or university.
3 – Submit official transcripts of high school graduation
Many schools will submit your transcripts to you automatically.
It’s best to consult your counselor to determine if you need to take any additional steps.
4: Keep your account information up to date
Once you have your Bright Futures account information, you can do a few things:
You can monitor your hours of service.
+ Update your postsecondary institution. Once you are accepted/enrolled at a FL college or vocational schools, I will make a note in your account.
Update your demographic information.
View your eligibility determination. Check your account after you have submitted all the required information to determine if you qualify for the scholarship.
Application Timelines
If you are ready to begin the application process, there are two Bright Futures timelines that you should keep in mind: Early Screening (pre-screening) and Final Screening.
Bright Futures is eligible for you if you plan early.
Early Evaluation
You will be notified of eligibility if your transcripts have been submitted for an early review based on your academic progress in the middle of your senior high school year and your test scores before January 31.
According to the Florida Department of Education, these postings could begin as early March.
Final Evaluation
Students who submit their final transcripts after the end of high school are eligible for an online notification.

How can you make your app standout?
You can now focus on improving your Bright Futures application.
You don’t have to do much to make your application “standout” – other than making sure that you meet the eligibility requirements.
You will receive the scholarship if you meet the criteria for the FAS scholarship, FMS scholarship, or GSV Scholarship. This is as simple as it gets.
The bad news is the strict eligibility requirements. . There are no grey areas: you either qualify if you meet the requirements or you do not (no mater how close you come) and don’t receive a scholarship.

Course work
All Bright Futures Scholarships require that students complete a set of high-school courses. You will most likely meet the course requirements if your high school was in Florida.
If you have any suspicions that there is a problem with your child, make an appointment to meet with your guidance counsellor.
GPA
It’s difficult to increase your GPA significantly in a short time. When you begin your freshman year, focus on grades and choose a GPA that is realistic.
Here are some ways you can mention your GPA if you find it difficult to achieve that goal:
- If you are unsure which classes would be best for your level of skill, talk to your guidance counselor.
- Teachers can provide extra assistance in areas of weakness.
- If possible, ask about extra credit assignments.

Community Service
The sooner you begin to report your hours of community service, the less time you need to spend volunteering each week. As you get older, your community service hours will be reduced. You’ll need to volunteer 2-3 hours per week.
If you are a freshmen, however, you only need to give 1-1.5 hours of your time every two weeks.
If you want to earn money, you’ll need to do community service. But you can also gain valuable career experience by looking for interesting positions.
Ask your family and friends for ideas. Make sure that you are working with an agency who can track your hours accurately.
Set a schedule. You should go at the same time each week or every two weeks to avoid falling behind on your hours.

Bright Futures Volunteer Hours 2023
The ss.1009.534(1) and 1009.535(1), Florida Statutes, as well as Rule 6A-20.028(3)(d), FAC are suspended in part for currently enrolled students who expect to graduate spring 2022. The Florida Statutes 1009.534(1) and 109.535(1) as well as Rule 6A-20.028(3) (d), FAC are suspended to allow school counselors and other individuals approved by district school boards or private school administrators to submit documentation to the Florida Department of Education in order to report the completion of required volunteer service hours to be eligible for a scholarship if a student has completed the number of hours.
